LEXPARK’s “Food for Fines” Program Is Back

Pay off your parking citations with canned food donations starting November 21

LEXINGTON, Ky. (November 18, 2022) –LEXPARK, the Lexington Parking Authority, announced today that “Food for Fines”, their nationally-recognized canned food drive, is returning for the holiday season.

From November 21 through December 16, those with outstanding parking tickets have the option to donate canned food at the LEXPARK offices, located at 122 North Broadway in Lexington, in exchange for reduced fees.

For every 10 cans of food donated, folks will receive $15 off any LEXPARK or Lexington Police issued parking citation. People are encouraged to donate as many cans as they’d like. Donations, and therefore fee reductions, can be applied to multiple citations and to past due citations.

Following the overwhelming success of last year’s food drive, which collected nearly two tons of food, many are happy to see the program come back.

“This program shows the spirit of our community, with LEXPARK and citizens coming together to support those in need,” says James Frazier, LPA Board Chair. “We’re so pleased to provide these items to God’s Pantry knowing that they will support local families during the holiday season.”

“Food for Fines gives people a chance to reduce what they owe –and give back,” says Gary Means, Executive Director of LEXPARK. “This is our ninth season ofpartnering with our customers and God’s Pantry Food Bank to help those experiencing hunger in our community.”

All canned food donations will be donated to God’s Pantry Food Bank. Canned vegetables which are at least 14 ounces in size and protein items such as canned meat, beans, or peanut butter are suggested. Expired, damaged, or opened food donations will not be accepted.

The goal of the Lexington Parking Authority, which was created by the Urban County Council in 2006, is to provide, maintain and operate adequate, high-quality, customer-focused public parking and encourage economic growth.
